Ho Chi Minh City will put 2 metro lines into operation and bid for 5 other metro routes in the period of 2021-2025 to improve public passenger transport capacity, reduce traffic congestion.

City Urban Railway Management Board has just reported to the Department of
Planning and Investment of HCMC the progress of 7 key projects in the field of
urban railway.

The second
phase (section of Ben Thanh – Thu Thiem and Tham Luong – Tay Ninh bus station)
and phase 3 (Tay Ninh bus station – Northwest Cu Chi area) of metro No. 2 are
under preparation for investment. In 2020, the bidding is expected to start in
the period of 2021-2025.

Besides,
the city is also preparing procedures to bid for three other projects including
urban railway No. 3a – phase 1 (Ben Thanh – Ben Xe Mien Tay), route 3a – phase
2 (Ben Western bus – Tan Kien station) and urban railway No. 4 (Ben Cat bridge
– Nguyen Van Linh).

Mr. Bui
Xuan Cuong, Head of Urban Railway Management Department, said that this unit
has set up the progress of implementing 7 projects under the direction of the
City People’s Committee.

Particularly
for the urban railway project No. 4, the Joint Venture of Lung Lo Construction
Corporation, Mosmetrostroy Company and GS E&C Company have proposed the
project idea. Urban railway No. 2 – phase 3 is being called for investment.

Urban
railway planning in Ho Chi Minh City includes 8 radial lines and ring to
connect the main centers of the city with a total length of about 220 km, total
investment up to 25 billion USD.
